The Base: Nude Art Down Under

Base
During Sydney's Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, New York artist Spencer Tunick carried out an epic project. On March 1, over 5,000 naked people filled the forecourt of the world-renown Sydney Opera House, essentially creating a base of human flesh.
The images from the photo shoot are magnificent. In Tunick's mind, the project, entitled "The Base," reflects the country's acceptance of people from all walks of life. He says, "Thanks to those participants were were able to capture an amazing moment and artwork that, to me, represents the equality and diversity of the city of Sydney. I hope that the work and the art-action highlighted the city's acceptance and pride in its gay and lesbian community."
